Placing second in the WBFA World Bodybuilding Federation middleweight class at the WBFA Mr. Universe Qualifier held at the Vacaville Performing Arts Center on Saturday July 22, Paul O’Lone’s inspiring journey continues … His second-place finish qualifies him to compete for Team USA against Team Europe on November 18 in Las Vegas.

“Just competing again was so fulfilling for me, I never expected to take it this far and I look forward to seeing how far I can go. I’m very happy that people with physical challenges admire me for what I am doing because those same people inspire me everyday at my gym.”

Despite his recent success, O’Lone feels there’s room for improvement; “I want to improve my presentation by working on my balance and improving my legs.”

He continues to relay the message to those with disabilities that they must continue to adapt and not give up. “You can still do the things you love but many times you will have to adapt. Any disability will be a challenge, but don't give-up.”

For example, O’Lone had to pace himself differently at the competition, being careful not to overheat.

“For me just getting back on stage and competing again has given me back a part of my life that I thought I would never have again and it feels good to not let my disability stop me anymore from doing what I love --- Bodybuilding.”

“I feel blessed that I'm able to compete again and honored to be able to stand on stage again beside these men who all trained and dieted so hard for this competition,” said O’Lone.

O’Lone will be competing in the Marysville Bodybuilding and Figure Competition as a “warm-up” event on October 14 in Marysville, CA, preparing for the Vegas contest.

"I am competing again for everyone who has a physical challenge because if they believe they can move mountains."

In 1993 O’Lone won the Mr. North America Bodybuilding Championship. O’Lone was gearing up toward obtaining his pro card when in 1997 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. In 2001, O’Lone and his wife Judy opened Accessible Fitness, a completely wheelchair accessible gym specializing in adaptive fitness.  Accessible Fitness is devoted to enhancing the quality of life of people living with all physical challenges.
