City of Santa Clara Awarded for Best All-Around Pavement Management Program
The
March 2008 issue of Street Talk, a monthly publication of the MTC, contained an article entitled “MTC Recognizes Local Street and Road Achievements” wherein the City of Santa Clara was recognized as the “Best All Around Pavement Management Program” of all the participating agencies within the 9 Bay area counties with an earned multi-year average PCI of 84. With this score, the City of Santa Clara is considered to have “very good” roads by the MTC – far above the all agency average score of 64.
The MTC is active in assisting public agencies in nine Bay Area Counties with management of their local street and road networks. Participation with the MTC requires each agency to utilize the MTC computerized Pavement Management System (PMS). For the first time, criteria for this award included three separate measures – average three year PCI, percentage of budget to preventative maintenance and overall soundness of the pavement management program.
MTC previously recognized the City of Santa Clara street network in November 2003, when they proclaimed the City of Santa Clara as the “Valedictorian” of Bay area agencies with a PCI of 86. A representative from the MTC will be in attendance at the Council meeting to make a short presentation on the significance of this achievement, and to present a plaque to the City.
The City Council, City employees and citizens have long supported the improvement and maintenance of the City’s local street and road network of approximately 240 miles. The overall very good condition of the City of Santa Clara street network has been enjoyed by its citizens and businesses alike for many years.
