Not many business owners have to worry about offending anyone at their opening, but for the owners of Signs Tech Solutions, located on the edge of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, came the question: Do we have our grand opening as a new Sunnyvale Business or a Santa Clara business?
Answer: Both!
So it went that on Friday, August 18th, husband and wife team Myriam Brenes and Luis Lopez had one grand opening party with two official ribbon cuttings. It was lucky that the invitation for Cupertino got lost in the mail, as a third ribbon cutting may have been a crowd.
With their backgrounds in graphic design and marketing, Myriam and Luis began Signs Tech Solutions only four months ago. Before making their opening official in the eyes of the public, Signs Tech Solutions had already begun gaining great word of mouth from satisfied clients. From street signs to monument signs and everything in between, this little company has begun to develop into a big business.
Supportive friends, family and members of the chamber of commerce were in attendance representing such businesses as B-Scaler and National 1st Credit Union. It was a bit like stepping into the reunion of a family you’ve never met before, because the room was full of camaraderie and laughter. Everyone, it seemed, was on a first name basis with everyone else and they all seemed sincerely glad to see one another. With a tight-knit support group like this behind them, it is no wonder that Signs Tech Solutions is already on its way to success.
Guests were invited to drop one of their business cards into a bowl for a raffle later. Had contests been held for Worst Dressed For Any Occasion Other Than Being Arrested or Hair Most Affected By The Heat Wave, I just might have walked out of there the big winner of the day.
The walls of the office suite were decorated with the collective wares and talents of the Signs Tech Solutions staff. A Japanese garden landscape, a Golden Gate Bridge scene, ads for Cadillac and Rolex all covered the walls in an effective display of talent and possibilities.
Also deserving credit for the showcased designs that hung about the party is Long Beach State alumnus Eric Conrad, graphic designer, who moved from Long Beach specifically in order to join the Signs Tech Solutions team. Eric joked, “Unfortunately, there’s no booze. It’s a daytime party.”
With a crowd of 50 looking on--this is an estimate, of course. An estimate by a writer who failed college math...twice--the ribbon cutting ceremony began at 5pm. Representatives of Santa Clara and its Chamber of Commerce were first up for the ceremonial sheering. A pair of Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce novelty scissors were used to cut the Santa Clara-emblazoned ribbon. Pictures were quickly snapped, smiles were wide and no one appeared to have ruined the photo op with any inappropriate blinking.
With a pair of novelty scissors of their own, but in white, the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, which included Ken Sorensen of The Wave, were up next with a cutting of the ribbon--the Santa Clara-stamped ribbon facing backwards. Shhh.
If the party was any indication of what Myriam and Luis can expect from their business, it is safe to say that Signs Tech Solutions has a long and prosperous road ahead of them.
