Santa Clara Teams Sweep District 44 Tournament of Champions
Briarwood Pirates Win District 44 Majors (11-12) Championship

With strong pitching from Nick Garcia and timely clutch hitting, the Briarwood Pirates beat Campbell in the Major TOC championship game 3-1 on June 21. The Pirates beat Santa Clara Homestead 1-0 in round 1 with a shutout complete game by Nick Garcia and lone RBI from Isaiah Chavez, then beat Mountain View 4-3 in round 2 with a walk-off 2-run single by Travis Hiett in the bottom of the 6th inning, then beat SC Westside 9-6 in the semi-final with a come from behind win.

Westside Red Sox Win District 44 Minors (9-10) Championship over Campbell Mortensen Precision 9-6
The Red Sox jumped to the lead in the opening inning with a hit by Dominic Torregroza. Torregroza scored on an Andrew Pleins base hit. The Red Sox padded their lead with RBIs from Joey Diaz, David Marez and Bobby Houston. Torregroza drove in the final run of the inning. In the next inning, Kyle Sheet's base hit knocked in Pleins. Westside added a run in the fourth. Westside's Jonah Advincula pitched five innings of no-hit ball before allowing a base hit to start the sixth inning. Noah Tolbert also singled and scored in the sixth. Advincula finished with 11 Ks.

Homestead Rays Defeat Homestead Giants 8-6 in District 44 Juniors Championship at Santa Clara University's Stephen Schott Stadium
The Rays' Roberto Gaylord picked up the win, allowing seven hits and striking out seven in five innings. Dominick Bailey picked up two doubles while Charlie Parry and Mike Lagier added doubles.

Santa Clara Teams All Win Opening Games of District 44 Minors (9-10) All Stars Tournament
Briarwood won their opening game 15-2 over Tri-Cities on June 27 and plays Moreland on June 29. Westside won their opening game 8-7 over Sunnyvale Southern on June 27 and plays Serra on June 29. Homestead won their opening game 5-4 over Sunnyvale Metro on June 27 and play Sunnyvale National on June 29.

Briarwood plays the winner of Los Altos and Moreland on June 29. Homestead played Cupertino American on June 27 - results were not available as of press time. Westside plays the Sunnyvale Metro/Tri-Cities winner on June 29.

Santa Clara Teams Faring Well in District 44 All Stars 11-12 Tournament
Westside opened with a decisive 24-3 win over Sunnyvale Southern on June 25. Westside played Campbell on June 28 after press. Homestead defeated Briarwood 9-2 on June 25 and played Los Altos on June 28 after press time. Briarwood plays the loser of Cupertino National/Sunnyvale Metro on June 30.

Santa Clara Red Sox Palomino Team Competes in Josh Anderson Tournament in Reno
The Red Sox went 2-3 at the tournament with wins over the Sonoma County Rebels on June 26 and Centennial Canons on June 23. The Red Sox were defeated by the Oklahoma Travelers on June 25, Sierra Sun Devils on June 24 and Petaluma Leghorns on June 22.The Red Sox are 10-6. They host the San Mateo Locos at 5 p.m. on June 29 and the San Mateo White Sox at 8 p.m on June 30, both at Washington Park. Nick Morehead leads the Red Sox in runs (16, tied with Gordon Madej), hits (18), doubles (8), triples (1, tied with Tyler Kiefer) and Stolen Bases (6, tied with Chris Gomez). Gomez leads the team with 19 RBI and two HRs (2, tied with Kiefer). Casey Thompson leads the team in batting average (.486) and on-base percentage (.581). Pablo Hernandez leads the team with 11 walks. On the mound, Tyler Davis leads the Red Sox with 27 Ks and 17-2/3 innings pitched and posts a 1.58 ERA. Gomez has two wins and one save with 15 Ks in 11 innings, posting a .64 ERA. Steven Thompson has 16 Ks and a 2.00 ERA, while Brandon Paolinetti posts a .50 ERA in 14 innings.

Santa Clara Dynasty Wins Again!
The Dynasty beat the San Jose Padres 8-6 on Sunday, June 26. Kyle Hatzenbuhler pitched a complete game, giving up 10 hits and striking out nine. Second baseman Jordan Fanara hit two homers and had two RBI in the victory and shortstop Gabriel Alcantar also homered and had a two-RBI game.

Watch the best of the best in the Silicon Valley Adult Baseball League at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Six Santa Clara Dynasty players will be on the roster: pitcher Kyle Hatzenbuhler, catcher Brad Davis, second baseman Jordan Fanara, third baseman Lou Agront, first basemen Trever Hatzenbuhler, and center fielder Marc Barron. Dynasty manager Rick Hatzenbuhler will manage the SVABL AllStar team. The game is at 7:30 p.m.
