Little League All Stars Updates
9-10 All Stars

Briarwood 9-10 All Stars defeated Tri-Cities 15-2 in the opening round, followed by a 5-2 win over Moreland. Briarwood plays Los Altos on July 6.

After both losing in the second round, Homestead and Westside won their third games, advancing to play each other on July 6. The loser will be eliminated, while the winner will advance to play the loser of Briarwood/Los Altos on July 8.

10-11 All Stars
Homestead won their opening games 10-9 and 11-1 and will play Sunnyvale Metro on July 6. Briarwood lost to Los Altos 14-13 in the opening round, then bounced back to defeat Tri-Cities 15-2 and will play Cupertino American on July 6.

Westside plays Mountain View on July 6.
Both Briarwood and Westside won decisively to remain in the brackets, with Briarwood besting Tri-Cities 15-3 and Westside defeating Moreland 13-3.

11-12 All Stars
After winning their opening games 24-3 and 2-1, Westside plays Sunnyvale Metro on July 7.

Briarwood lost to Homestead 9-2 in the opening round and played Cupertino National July 5 after press time.

Homestead defeated Briarwood in the opening round, then fell 7-5 to Los Altos and will play Cupertino American on July 5 after press time.

Junior All Stars
Homestead still hangs in championship hunt after defeating Cupertino American 7-0 on July 1. They will play Cupertino National on July 6.

Santa Clara Red Sox See Rare Spring Rainout, Win Solo Game of Week
The Santa Clara Red Sox defeated the San Mateo White Sox 4-2 on June 30 at Washington Park. Tyler Davis pitched a complete, eight-inning game, compiling 13Ks, allowing only four hits, two runs and a walk. Gordon Madej, Nick Morehead and Owen Price all had two hits. Chris Gomez had three walks, two runs and a SB. Jordan Funtila was hit-by-pitches twice and added three SBs. Price had two RBI. The Red Sox saw a June 28 doubleheader washed away by rain. The Red Sox host a doubleheader vs. the Los Altos Broncos on July 6 at Washington Park (5 and 8 p.m.) then host the Los Altos Knights in a doubleheader on July 7 at Washington Park (5 and 8 p.m.).

Santa Clara Pony 13 Plays Well in Nor Cal Central Region Tournament, But Comes up Short
Though eliminated form the region tournament hosted by Santa Clara PONY at Lou Vierra Field in Santa Clara, the young athletes represented Santa Clara well. Santa Clara opened with a 17-7 win over Ceres, then lost to tournament winner Bel Passi 8-6. SC then fell 6-5 to Brentwood to be eliminated from the tournament.

Santa Clara University Gets New Baseball Coach On June 30, SCU announced two-time Division II National Coach of the Year Dan O'Brien was named as the new Bronco head baseball coach. O'Brien has spent the last 14 seasons at UC San Diego where in the last eight years, he has led the team to five NCAA Division II West Regional showings, and two NCAA National Championship Finals appearances.

Santa Clara Sporting '97 Girls White Team Wins 2011 California Cup Tournament in Sacramento on June 26. During a grueling schedule of five games over three days in hot temperatures, the girls took down Gotsoccer's California North ranked #4, #6, and #10 teams on their way to their first Cal Cup title.

Sporting 98/97/93 Girls Teams Win US Club Regionals & Qualify for Nationals
The Santa Clara Sporting 98 Green, 97 Green and 93 girls teams all won the 2011 US Club Regional Tournament held in Modesto, earning berths to compete in the US Club Soccer National Championship July 29 through August 1 in Boise, Idaho.
