Santa Clara Red Sox Fall Short in Zone Tournament After winning the Regional tournament at Washington Park, the Red Sox left it all on the field, but came up short in the Palomino Zone tournament, ending the season for the team. The Red Sox lost 4-2 to the So Cal Bombers, defeated the Colton nighthawks 10-9, then fell 9-1 to the Arroyo Seco Saints. In 34 games, Gordon Madej compiled 35 hits and 30 runs plus two HRs and nine SBs. Pablo Hernandez led the Red Sox with 22 walks and added 26 runs, nine SBs and a HR. Chris Gomez led the team with 29 RBIs and blasted two HRs. Casey Thompson led the team with a .460 OBP and .387 BA. Nick Morehead compiled 18 RBIs and 23 runs while leading the team with ten doubles and 11 SBs. Jordan Funtila compiled 19 RBIs, 8 SBs, and a .300 BA. On the mound, Tyler Davis led the team with 63 Ks and 47-2/3 innings pitched, amassing a stellar 2.64 ERA. Steven Thompson compiled 41 Ks in 42 innings and a 4.00 ERA. Thompson also added 24 RBIs and two HRs on offense. Gomez recorded 23 Ks, four wins and two saves with a 1.62 ERA in 21-2/3 innings. Markus Boucher compiled 26 Ks in 25-2/3 innings. Brandon Paolinetti added 19 Ks and 35 innings pitched. Paolinetti, Logan Overly and Boucher had a complete game while S. Thompson and Davis had two complete games.

49ers Training Camp Opens After the NFL agreed to a new collective bargaining and labor agreement, the 49ers' training camp opened this past weekend. The 49ers will have a short training camp as the pre-season opens on August 12 at New Orleans. The 49ers' first home pre-season game is August 20 vs. the Oakland Raiders at Candlestick Park. Santa Clara Sporting '00 Boys Green Team Wins 2011 Impact Invitational in Brentwood on July 24. The team went undefeated and outscored their opponents 32-2, including a 9-1 win in the championship game. Visit www.santaclarasporting.com for more information on SC Sporting soccer.

Two Huge Youth Soccer Tournaments Coming to Santa Clara Santa Clarans will soon see a flock of youth soccer players throughout the City, with the 8th Annual Santa Clara Sporting Invitational, a tournament for elite Class 1 Boys teams in the U8-U18 age groups taking place August 5-7 at fields throughout Santa Clara. The following weekend, August 13-14, the 11th Annual Santa Clara Rotary Cup presented by Kaiser welcomes boys and girls teams for their annual tournament, which is a fundraiser supporting many local community events and Rotary activities.

Northern California Brewers Hand Dynasty Third Straight Loss. On Sunday, July 31, the Dynasty lost 11-8 to the Brewers at Del Mar High School. Starting pitcher Jordan Fanara pitched four innings, giving up seven hits and four earned runs. Reliever Kyle Hatzenbuhler pitched the final five innings, giving up an equal seven hits and four earned runs. Offensively, Eric Barnes led the way with three RBIs.
