Santa Clara Native Carlos Hernandez Pitches 8-Inning Gem for Triple-A Sacramento (A's Affiliate) The southpaw pitched a near flawless eight innings in the Sacramento Rivercats' 13-1 win over the Las Vegas 51s (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) on August 29. Hernandez allowed only four hits, one unearned run, walked zero and struck out six in the longest outing by Sacramento pitchers all season. On the season, Hernandez is 8-7 with 77Ks.

Santa Clara University Women's Soccer 3-0 after Wins over UC Santa Barabara and Cal Poly On August 26, the Broncos picked up a 2-1 win. Sophomore Julie Johnston assisted junior Lauren Matheson in the 11th minute for SCU's first goal. The Gauchos evened the score in the 47th, but in the 89th, sophomore Sarah Jackson scored the game-winner. Two days later, Johnston scored twice (14th and 61st) and Jackson once (54th) to give the Broncos a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly.

Santa Clara University Women's Volleyball Drops Season Opener, Picks up Two Wins at Seattle University Tournament After dropping the opener against Washington State 3-1 the Broncos picked up a 3-0 win over Seattle and 3-0 win over Eastern Washington. Over the weekend, sophomore Katherine Douglas led the team offensively with 40 kills, followed by juniors Dana Knudsen with 27 kills and Kayla Lommori with 24 kills. Junior Alexandra Palmer had 90 assists over the three days.

Santa Clara University Men's Soccer Begin Season with 1-0 Victory over Stanford August 26 Seniors Davis Castaellanos and Alex Fitschen connected in the first half to give the Broncos their only goal of the night

Santa Clara Dynasty End Season 20-6 After Losing to Hard Ninety Angels 14-4 Despite getting ahead early, the Dynasty had a rough 5th and 6th inning and were unable to recover. Offensively starting pitcher Jordan Fanara picked up a homerun and three hits. Fanara pitched 4.1 innings giving up two hits and six runs. Relief pitcher Kyle Hatzenbuhlzer had a rough outing, pitching only 1.1 innings and giving up five hits and six runs.

Santa Clara Sporting Mens Team Claims 2011 California Premier Soccer Association Title On Sunday, August 21, they claimed the league title with a 5-2 victory over the Harmonie Mens Team of Palo Alto.  Santa Clara jumped out to an early lead with two goals against the Palo Alto Team that defeated Sporting in the championship game last year.  Sporting coach Luis Azevedo made some great tactical substitutions and Santa Clara turned the momentum back to the men in the green and white hoops, and the score was quickly a 5-2 game.

Santa Clara Aquamaids Place in UANA Pan-American Championships The Aquamaids were well represented in the UANA Pan-American Championships held August 18-22 in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Nocile Dzurko placed second in the 12-and-under Solo event, just .062 below the gold medalist. Michelle Xu and Rachel Ye claimed Gold in the 12-and-under "B Flight." Emily Anger and Jacklyn Luu claimed silver in the 12-and-under Duet while as a team, Santa Clara claimed Gold in the 12-and-under age group.

SCYSL's Santa Clara Fire U11 Boys Team Claims Tournament by the Bay Championship The Santa Clara Fire U11boys team participated in the Tournament by the Bay August 20-22 in San Mateo. Allowing only three goals and scoring 14 in four games allowed the Santa Clara Fire to claim first place overall in the bronze division. The Fire had two shutouts during their 4-0-0 championship run and faced a tough Peninsula Hawks team for the final.

Santa Clara Sporting 95 Girls White Team Wins 2011 Stanford Summer Classic The team lost their first bracket game 1-2 against Juventus SC La Fencie, but bounced back and defeated San Juan SC Spirit 96 6-0. The girls then beat Sunnyvale SC Sparks 95 1-0, earning the team a spot in the semi-finals. Santa Clara won their semi-final match 1-0 over San Bruno Lowen, then fought a tough battle and won the championship with a 1-0 victory over the American River Futbol Freedom team. Santa Clara ended the tournament scoring 10 goals and only allowing one into their net.
