49ers Focus

The 49ers and Head Coach Jim Harbaugh have some kinks in their armor to repair before hosting the reigning NFC West champions Seattle Seahawks in their season-opener on Sunday, September 11 at Candlestick Park, but the 49ers first-team looked like a well-oiled machine in their 20-17 pre-season finale win over the San Diego Chargers on September 1.

Scoring on their opening two possessions against the Chargers' respected defense, the 49ers looked crisp. Harbaugh noted Alex Smith's role as starting QB is in tact after an impressive 8-for-10 while leading the 49ers to scores in both of their opening offensive possessions.

The Offensive line provided Smith ample time to pass and provided plenty or blocks and room for RBs Anthony Dixon and Kendall Hunter to consistently move the chains and keep the momentum moving forward.

Despite RB Frank Gore and TE Vernon Davis not touching the ball, the 49ers looked impressive on offense. Smith methodically guided the 49ers to 80-yard and 22-yard scoring drives.

The 49ers have all the tools to win the NFC West, as long as Smith can remain consistent at QB. Unfortunately, behind Smith, the 49ers' QB depth chart is rather bleak, so here's hoping Smith can prove he can lead the 49ers to the NFC West championship!
