Wilcox Chargers Open Season With big Loss at Serra. Having allowed the Serra Padres to score on their opening seven possessions, the Chargers were walloped in their non-league season opener at Serra on Saturday, September 3, 52-6. Five Chargers turnovers led to five Padres scores. The Chargers' lone score was a 3-yard run by Senior QB Andrew Aguilar in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked. The Chargers hope to rebound when they host the Terra Nova Tigers (0-1) in a non-league game on Friday, September 9 at Fitzpatrick Field at Wilcox.

Santa Clara Bruins Open Season With Loss at South San Francisco. The Bruins showed promise in their 20-7 loss at the South San Francisco on Friday, September 2. The Bruins Defense picked off QB Brad Los twice in the loss. Senior Rey Remo scored the Bruins' lone TD in the second quarter, a 13-yard run. The Bruins host reigning SCVAL El Camino division champion Los Altos (0-0) on Friday, September 9 in a non-league contest at Bruins Field.

Santa Clara University Men's Water Polo Open Season with Loses to Pacific, Cal. Number 14 SCU played twice in the Cal Bear Invitational on Saturday, September 13. The Broncos dropped the season opener 11-2 to Number 5 Pacific and the second game of the season 21-3 to University of California, Berkeley. Redshirt sophomore Theo Nasser and senior James Case scored once in both games. Redshirt sophomore Jimmy Moore also scored. Senior goalie Michael Wishart made 16 saves against Pacific and three saves in the first half against Cal. Junior John Nash played the third quarter in the Cal game, recording two saves, while redshirt freshman Matt Pritchett played the fourth quarter and also recorded two saves.

Bronco Men's Soccer Tie UCLA, Lose to New Mexico. Junior Erik Hurtado and senior Mykell Bates scored against Number 6/13 UCLA in a 2-2 draw September 2. Hurtado scored in the first half, but the Broncos trailed 2-1 late in the second half. Bates took a cross from senior Connor Mitchell and was able to tie the game in the final minutes of play. Against New Mexico, senior goalkeeper Kevin Klasila had six saves, but was unable to placate a hungry Lobos team.

SCU Women's Soccer Tie Oregon State, Oregon in University of Oregon Tourney. Junior Lauren Matheson scored on a free kick that went off the crossbar and into the net in the 10th minute of play. Oregon State came back in the 71st minute to tie the game at 1. Neither team was able to score in overtime. Against Oregon, senior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger made three saves in the scoreless battle.

Santa Clara University Women's Volleyball Beat Cal Poly, Lose to Michigan, Utah Valley State at La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational. Freshman Taylor Milton had 11 kills in the 3-1 victory over rival Cal Poly. Junior Kaleigh Durket had 13 kills, junior Dana Knudsen had nine kills and one block and junior Kayla Lommori had 14 kills, 12 digs, two block assists and one block in the victory. Against Michigan, Milton picked up 11 kills and three digs, redshirt sophomore Katherine Douglas had 12 kills and 10 digs and sophomore Alyssa Anderson picked up 21 assists and seven digs in the 3-1 loss. In the 3-1 loss to Utah Valley State, SCU was led by senior Tanya Schmidt with 17 kills. Douglas picked up 16 kills while Milton and Knudsen both had seven. Anderson had 33 assists and three aces in the loss.
