Santa Clara University Men’s Soccer played San Jose State September 22 and Harvard September 25. After two overtime periods and a score by sophomore Phillip Muscarella in the 32nd minute, the Broncos tied SJSU 1-1. In a home match against Harvard, the Broncos played hard, but the score didn’t reflect their play. After two overtime periods, the Broncos picked up a 0-0 draw.

Santa Clara University Women’s Soccer played Washington State on September 23 and Cal on September 25. Against Washington State, the Broncos got a late, unassisted goal from sophomore Julie Johnston to win 1-0. An early goal by Johnston, followed by one midway through the first by freshman Katie Speidel gave the Broncos a 2-0 lead over Cal at halftime. Johnston picked up a second goal just after the halfway point to give the Broncos the 3-0 victory.

Wilcox Boys Water Polo d. Saratoga 11-10 on September 22 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Goals were scored by Harsh (6) and McBride (5).

Wilcox Girls Tennis defeated cross-town rival Santa Clara 4-2 on September 20 to improve to 2-0. Santa Clara fell to 0-2. No. 1 singles -- Dukic (SC) d. Medalle 6-1, 6-1. No. 1 doubles -- Iftekhar-Soong (W) d. Ma-Tran 6-0, 6-0.

Bruins Girls Water Polo Starts Season 3-0 with 18-2 win over Cupertino, 9-6 win at Harker and 8-3 win over Harker.

Santa Clara University Women’s Volleyball picked up a 3-2 loss against San Diego on September 24. Offensively the team was lead by redshirt sophomore Katherine Douglas with 13 kills followed by senior Tanya Schmidt and junior Dana Knudsen with 12 apiece.

Santa Clara University Men’s Water Polo participated in the UC Davis Aggie Shootout September 24-25. The Broncos picked up wins against Redlands (11-5), Occidental (14-9), and La Verne (18-5), but lost to Cal (18-2). Against Redlands, goals were scored by senior Marcus Akerland (2), sophomore Tucker Carlson (2), freshman Kyle Surber (2), redshirt senior Daley Meistrell, sophomore David Guibord, junior Patrick Weiss and freshman Mark Davis. Against Occidental, the Broncos had goals by Akerland (2), Weiss (2), Meistrell, Surber, Davis, redshirt sophomore Theo Nasser, senior Brett Zylstra, and senior James Case. In the win over La Verne, Carlson and Nasser picked up four goals apiece, Davis added three goals, Akerland and Case each had two, and Surber, redshirt freshman Matt Kochalko and junior CJ D’Arienzo each had one goal in the victory. In the loss to Cal, Kochalko and Surber were the only goal scorers.

Santa Clara University Cross Country Competed at the Stanford Invitational September 24. The men placed 8th while the women placed 21st.
