Bruins Continue El Camino Dominance with Homecoming Route of Gunn. The Bruins continued stellar El Camino division play, routing Gunn 27-6 on Friday, October 14 at Bruins Stadium to conclude homecoming with a big win.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bruins struck gold when Senior QB Jason Plater connected with Senior Kingsley Okakpu from 13 yards for a TD. Shortly thereafter, Senior Raymond Remo scored on a 4-yard TD run, putting the Bruins up 14-0 at the half.

The Bruins padded their lead in the third, with Plater connecting with Remo for a 5-yard TD pass. Sophomore Adam Garza added six on a 60-yard TD run.

The Titans scored their lone TD in the fourth quarter, with the Bruins blocking the extra point.

Junior Justin Duerkesen was 3-for-4 on PATs. On the season, Duerkesen is 25-for-28 on PAT attempts, rated in the Top 5 in CCS of all kickers. With 11 TDs on the year, Garza cracked the Top 10 in overall scoring in the CCS.

The Bruins (5-2, 3-0) host Monta Vista (4-2, 2-0) on October 21 at Bruins Stadium. The Bruins, seeking their first league title since 2005, have outscored their division opponents 118-34.

Trojans Spoil Chargers’ Homecoming. The Milpitas Trojans (5-1, 2-1) topped the Chargers 23-20 Friday, October 14 at Fitzpatrick Field, greatly diminishing the Chargers’ hopes of a De Anza division title, and potentially souring their CCS playoff hopes.

The Trojans scored first, taking advantage of a Wilcox fumble with the Trojans’ Squally Canada returning the fumble 84 yards to put the Chargers in the hole early.

The Chargers bounced back, scoring on a one-yard TD run by Senior QB Andrew Aguilar, knotting the game at 7 after the extra point.

The Trojans went into halftime with a 14-7 lead after scoring on a 43-yard TD run.

A 21-yard Field Goal increased the Chargers’ deficit to 17-7.

Junior Roland Luke scored on a 7-yard run, bringing the Chargers within three, now down 17-14.

Milpitas went up by nine on a 7-yard run by Canada.

The Chargers pulled within three on a 4-yard pass TD from Aguilar to Sophomore Delshawn Mitchell.

The Chargers (1-4-1, 0-2-1) play at Los Altos (1-5, 0-3) on Friday, October 21.

Santa Clara University Men’s Soccer Loses Two. The Broncos suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to LMU October 14. The winning goal was headed in the 97th minute of play. The Bronco men followed up the OT loss with a 2-0 loss at San Diego. It was the second time in the last 14 meetings USD has managed to pull off an upset over SCU.

Santa Clara University Women’s Soccer, Ties, Wins. The Broncos tied Brigham Young University 0-0 in double overtime match on October 13. Senior goalkeeper Bianca Henninger made six saves in the tie. The Broncos then put on quite the show for a home crowd on October 16 by beating USF 5-0. The scorefest started early in the first half with senior Margueritte Aozasa and continued a couple of minutes later with sophomore Julie Johnson. Freshman Sophia Huerta picked up two goals in the first half to put the Broncos up by four at halftime. The final goal was scored in the 75th minute by freshman Kat McAuliffe.

Santa Clara University Men’s Water Polo Loses to UCLA. In a home match against No. 3 UCLA, the Broncos lost 12-9. SCU’s goals were scored by redshirt sophomore Theo Nasser (3), freshman Mark Davis (2), senior Marcus Akerland, redshirt freshman Matt Kochalko, redshirt sophomore Jimmy Moore and sophomore Tucker Carlson. Senior goalkeeper Michael Wishart made 12 saves in the loss.

Santa Clara University Women’s Volleyball Loses Twice. The Broncos lost 3-1 to Pepperdine October 13 and then 3-2 to Saint Mary’s October 15. After winning the first set 23-25 to No. 19 Pepperdine, the Broncos dropped three straight sets 25-16, 25-16 and 25-7. Redshirt sophomore Katherine Douglas led the Broncos’ offense with 12 kills and 10 digs and senior Bridget O’Hara had 13 digs. It took Saint Mary’s all five sets to bean the Broncos last Saturday. The Broncos were led by freshman Taylor Milton who had 13 kills and 10 digs. Douglas also had a big match with 10 kills and 11 digs and junior Kayla Lommori picked up 10 kills in the loss. Sophomore Alyssa Anderson had 20 assists and six digs while junior Alexandra Palmer had 26 assists and eight digs.

Santa Clara University Cross Country Hosted Bronco Invitational October 15. SCU Women finished 19th while the men finished 12th. Redshirt senior Robbie Reid was the top-placing Bronco on either side. Reid finished 10th with a time of 24:13.4.
