Wilcox Football Players Named to SCVAL De Anza All-League Team. Coaches in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division named seven Wilcox Chargers to the All League team: Junior Corbin Jackson, outstanding inside linebacker; Junior Roland Luke, first team RB; Senior Kevin Fletcher, first team WR; Junior Sefa Mikaio, first team offensive linemen; Senior Mosa Likio, first team outside linebacker; and Senior Tala Brown, first team defensive linemen.
Santa Clara Bruins Name MVPs at Fall Sports Awards Night and Banquet. SCHS recently celebrated their fall athletes at their Fall Sports Awards Night and Banquet at the Santa Clara Theatre. Members of the Water Polo, Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, Girls Tennis, and Football teams were treated to a meal provided by the Athletic Boosters. MVPs: Lucas Stevenson & Connor James - Boys Varsity Water Polo; Danny Delgado - Boys F/S Water Polo; Jessi Boyd - Girls Varsity Water Polo; Danielle Boyington - Girls JV Water Polo; Megan Morse Quevedo - Girls Varsity Volleyball; Sarah Phillips - Girls JV Volleyball; Rick Duenas - Boys Cross Country; Regan Dyer - Girls Cross Country; Lidia Dukic - Girls Varsity Tennis; Adam Garza - Varsity Football; Aaron Dominguez - F/S Football.
Wilcox Girls Basketball Opens Season With Three Wins in the Fremont-Sunnyvale Tournament. The Chargers defeated Kennedy-Fremont 56-44 on November 29. Sophomore Center Joeseta Fatuesi scored 21 points, Sophomore Point Guard Shania Ratliff scored ten points and Junior Guard Amanda Joo added 8 points. The Chargers then bested Leigh 40-21 on November 30 led by Fatuesi with 14 points, Joo with 11 points (two from beyond the arc) and Senior Point Guard Trinda Cook with six points. The Chargers then defeated Saratoga 40-24 on December 2. Cook and Fatuesi scored 12 points, while Joo scored eight.
Santa Clara Bruins Girls Basketball Opens Season 2-1. The Bruins defeated Yerba Buena 64-50 on November 29 with Senior Jessi Boyd scoring 13 points. Sophomore S. Rudd scored 14 points. Sophomore Almaira Ferrer scored six. The Bruins then fell 59-29 at Mountain View on November 30. Boyd and Ferrer (two three pointers) each scored eight in the loss. The Bruins defeated Live Oak 43-33 on December 3.
Wilcox Boys Basketball Opens With Two Losses. The Chargers opened their season with a 71-49 loss to Leigh on December 1. Narcisco led the Chargers with 13 points (three three pointers) while Nielson added 9 points and Toscaro added 7 points (one three pointer). The Chargers also fell 42-31 to Live Oak on December 3.
Santa Clara Bruins Boys Basketball Splits Opening Games. The Bruins toppled Yerba Buena 78-30 on November 29. Lockwood led the Bruins with 21 points, including three from beyond the arc, while Sophomore Ronaq Virdi scored 12 points, via four three-pointers, with Senior Brandon Ngo scoring ten points, Senior Cole Yamamura scoring nine, with Junior R.J. Pamintuan adding six points. Fresh off of a stellar football season, Senior Kingsley Okakpu scored four points. The Bruins then took a tough, 59-57 loss at Harker on December 3. Ngo led the Bruins with 16 points, with Lockwood adding 13. Senior Center Brandon Loredo added nine points with Virdi adding eight.
Santa Clara University Women's Basketball Wins, Loses. After a 90-72 win over CSU Northridge where junior Meagan Fulps scored 12 of her 19 points in the first half, SCU fell to UC Irvine 88-82. UCI scored 12 of the game's final 14 points to take the come from behind victory over the Broncos. Senior Alyssa Shoji scored 22 points in the loss. The Broncos play at Cal this Saturday and at Seattle on Tuesday before returning home Saturday, December 17 for a match up against San Jose State at 5 p.m.
Santa Clara University Men's Basketball Wins. Coming off the victory over Villanova at the 76 Classic over Thanksgiving weekend, the Broncos beat CSU Northridge 71-58 at home on Saturday, December 3. Junior Niyi Harrison scored his second career double-double and junior Kevin Foster picked up 20 points in the win. As a team, SCU shot 32.7%, including 36.4% from beyond the arc. They collected 48 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and one block. The Broncos will play at Washington State on Sunday, December 11, before returning home to play Pacifica on Tuesday, December 13 at 7 p.m.
Wilcox Girls Soccer Splits First Three Games With Win, Tie and Loss. The Chargers lost to The King's Academy 6-0 on November 29, then tied Mt. Pleasant 2-2 on November 30. Junior Forward Yesenia Ruvalcaba scored both goals. The Chargers defeated Latino College Prep 19-1 on December 2. Ruvalcaba scored four goals and added two assists while Junior Forward Celena Vasques scored five goals and assisted on one goal. Freshmen Middle Forward Crystal Mendes added three goals.
Santa Clara Bruins Girls Soccer Opens Season With Three Losses. The Bruins fell 2-0 to Pioneer on November 30, then fell 8-3 to Castilleja on December 1 at the Palo Alto tournament. Sophomore Samia Adam scored two goals and added an assist. Senior Forward Raquel Dejesus scored the other goal. Senior Alicia Terry assisted on two of the goals. Host Palo Alto 4-1 defeated the Bruins on December 2.
Santa Clara Bruins Boys Soccer Opens Season With Tie and Win. The Bruins settled with a 1-1 tie with Live Oak on December 1 followed by a 3-0 win over Leland on December 3.
Bruins Wrestlers Open Season at 45th Annual Peninsula Tournament at Half Moon Bay. Ranvijay Singh placed third in the 195-pound bracket on December 3, going 3-1, losing only to second place Keon Armin (Cupertino). Miguel Horta went 2-2 at 145.
Santa Clara Sporting Raises $28,603 in 2011 Goals for a Cure Campaign; Over $83,000 Since 2008.
Santa Clara Sporting Club players and parents raised $28,603.02 during October in their annual Goals for a Cure campaign, the most donations over the past four years since Goals for a Cure was launched in 2008. Santa Clara Sporting families have now raised over $83,000 since 2008. The funds raised are used to support women who need financial assistance to get a mammogram breast screening exam. El Camino Hospital used the first $55,000 raised by Goals for a Cure to provided 84 free breast screens last year, and eight women were detected with breast cancer and treated. The Santa Clara Sporting '95 Boys White Team raised the most donations collecting $3,003, and will present the check to El Camino Hospital in January 2012.
