Wilcox Girls Basketball Improves to 6-0 With Wins at Livermore, vs. Piedmont Hills and at Silver Creek. The Chargers defeated Livermore 51-47 on December 6. Sophomore Joeseta Fatuesi led the Chargers with 26 points. Sophomore Caitlin Brown added eight and Senior Trinda Cook added six. The Chargers then defeated Piedmont Hills 52-23 on December 8. Fatuesi led the Chargers once again with 20 points, with Brown adding 10 and King adding eight. The Chargers then improved to 6-0 by knocking off Silver Creek 57-31 in San Jose on December 10. Brown led the Chargers with 16 points (4 three pointers), while Cook added 11 points.
Bruins Girls Basketball Picks Up Two Wins and a Loss. The Bruins defeated Independence 41-33 on December 5, led by Sophomore Samantha Rudd with 14 points. The Bruins then fell to Leland 40-33 on December 6. Senior Jessi Boyd led the Bruins with 12 points and 14 rebounds while Rudd added eight points. The Bruins then bested Del Mar 45-28 on December 9. Boyd scored 11 and compiled eight rebounds while Rudd added 11 points, seven steals and four assists.
Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball Loses at Cal. The Broncos picked up their second loss in a row after falling to Cal 75-58 on Saturday, December 10. Senior Alyssa Shoji led the team with 14 points and junior Ashley Armstrong added 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Broncos play San Jose State at home on Saturday, December 17 at 5 p.m.
Wilcox Girls Soccer Splits Games. The Chargers defeated Downtown College Prep 13-0 on December 7. Junior Celena Vasquez, Freshmen Crystal Mendes and Sophomore Katie Escolar scored two goals with Sophomore Kelly Escolar, Junior Yesenia Ruvalcaba, Junior Katelyn Gonsalves, Sophomore Mikayla Miyasaki, Freshmen Jackie Larios, Senior Kristina Bowman, Sophomore Elaine Corona and Junior Emma McCain all adding a goal. Katie Escolar, Vasques, Corona, Ruvalcaba and Mendez all had an assist as well.The Chargers (2-2-1) then fell to 5-3 to Lincoln on December 9. Mendes, Katie Escolar and Vasques scored a goal, with Gonsalvez, Vasques and Katie Escolar adding an assist.
Bruins Boys Basketball Wins Three Straight Games on the Road. The Bruins defeated Prospect 63-56 on December 6, then knocked off Lincoln 70-59 on December 9 and Live Oak 48-42 on December 10.
Wilcox Boys Basketball Defeated Andrew Hill for Their First Win, Followed by Loss to Menlo-Atherton. The Chargers (1-3) defeated Andrew Hill 48-47 on December 6, then succumbed to Menlo-Atherton 59-45 on December 8.
Santa Clara University Men’s Basketball Loses at Washington State. The Bronco men traveled to Washington on Sunday, December 11 and fell to the Cougars 93-55. The Broncos were led by junior Kevin Foster with 16 points and three steals (Foster went 2-6 from three point range). Junior Niyi Harrison added 14 points and sophomore Evan Roquemore had 12. The Broncos shot 40 percent from the field and collected 24 rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals. They also had 15 turnovers in the loss. The Broncos will next play University of the Pacific at home on Saturday, December 17 at 2 p.m.
Wilcox Boys Soccer Team Picked up a 5-0 Win at Woodside Priory on December 6 followed by a 4-0 win vs. Harker on December 8.
Bates, Hurtado Named to Regional Team. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America honored Santa Clara University junior Erik Hurtado and senior Mykell Bates by naming them NCAA All-Far West Regional performers. The three-team list names the best players at each position in the West Coast (Hurtado was named to the second team and Bates the third team). Bates has also been one of 52 college seniors invited to participate in the 2012 Adidas MLS Player Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, January 6-10.
Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball to Hold Free Clinic. On Friday, December 16 from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. will host a free Fan Appreciation Clinic in the Leavey Center for boys and girls ages 5 to 13. Contact Amanda Brown 408-554-5018 for more information.
