Wilcox Girls Basketball Continues Early Season Success. The Chargers defeated Westmont 53-38 on December 13, improving to 7-0. Sophomore Joeseta Fatuesi scored 29 points, with Sophomore Shania Ratliff adding 10 points.

Wilcox Chargers Boys Basketball Pick up Pair of Wins and Loss. The Chargers (3-4) picked up a 64-44 win over Yerba Buena on December 13. Junior Roland Luke led the Chargers with 12 points. The Chargers then were defeated 58-33 by Oak Grove on December 17. The Chargers added a 53-36 win over Overfelt on December 20.

SC Bruins Girls Basketball Participates in Homestead Tournament. The Bruins (4-3) opened the tournament with a 58-50 loss to Newark Memorial on December 17. Sophomore Mickie Ferrer scored 15 points (all from three-point range) in the loss with Sophomore Samantha Rudd adding 15 points also.

SC Bruins Boys Basketball Picks up Two Road Wins. The Bruins (7-1) defeated San Jose High 74-20 on December 14. Sophomore Ronaq Virdi led the Bruins with 22 points, with Junior R.J. Pamintuan scoring 12, Seniors Kingsley Okakpu and Brandon Loredo each adding 9 and Senior Brando Ngo adding six. The Bruins then bested Mt. Pleasant 63-47 on December 16. Virdi led the Bruins with 23 points (seven three-pointers) with Ngo adding 13 points.

Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball Loses 3 Times, Loss Streak at 5. After losing 86-64 at Seattle on Tuesday, December 13, the Broncos came home to face cross-town rival San Jose State on Saturday, December 17. SCU lost to SJSU 74-53. On Monday, December 19, the Broncos attempted to rebound against Princeton, but came up short in the 77-61 loss. Senior Alyssa Shoji scored a team-high 23 points, including five three-pointers in the game against Princeton. SCU will next play at Sacramento before returning home on Saturday, December 31 to face Pepperdine at 2 p.m.

Santa Clara University Men’s Basketball Wins Twice. After beating Pacifica 84-59, the Broncos needed an overtime period to claim a 78-76 victory over University of the Pacific. Junior Kevin Foster tied his season high with 26 points (six baskets from three point range). Foster is now number four on the all-time WCC career three-pointers list. Sophomore Evan Roquemore scored the second double-double of his career with 14 points and 11 assists. The Broncos will next travel to Houston Baptist before returning home for the 45th Annual Cable Car Classic on December 29 and 30.

Wilcox Girls Soccer Picks up Pair of Wins. The Chargers defeated San Jose High 8-1 on December 14 with five goals by Junior Celena Vasques while Freshmen Crystal Mendes, Sophomore Katie Escolar and Junior Kelly Escolar each adding a goal. Mendes also added four assists. Vasques and Senior Haley Morris also each added an assist. The Chargers improved to 6-2-1 with a 3-2 win over Oak Grove on December 16. Vasquez scored two goals with Junior Katelyn Gonsalvez adding the other. Mendes and Junior Kayleigh Burke each had an assist. The Chargers also defeated Overfelt 4-1 on December 13 with two goals from Vasques and goals from Mendes (Vasques) and Escolar. Junior Yesenia Ruvalcaba had two assists with Vasques adding an assist. The Chargers have an extended Holiday break before hosting cross-town rival Santa Clara on January 6 to open SCVAL El Camino division play.

SC Bruins Girls Soccer Falls 2-1 to Santa Cruz on December 13. The Bruins (0-4-1) fell to Santa Cruz 2-1 on December 13 and lost 3-1 to Saratoga in the consolation bracket at the Palo Alto Winter Classic. The Bruins now have an extended break before playing cross-town rival Wilcox (3-2-1) on January 6 to open Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino division play.

C Bruins Wrestling Opens With Tie-Breaker Loss to Milpitas. The Bruins battled the Milpitas Spartans to a very tough SCVAL loss, falling to the Spartans via tiebreaker for most wins, as the teams tied 36-36. 106 -- Roberts (M) p. Chargers and Bruins Wrestlers Compete in Lynn Dyche Classic at James Lick High. The Chargers placed 11th overall as a team while the Bruins placed 23rd. The Chargers were well-represented, with Le placing third at 113, Barraclough placing fifth at 145, Robinson placing third at 152, St. Amant placing sixth at 220 and Wright taking fifth at 285. The Bruins were represented by Olsen taking fifth at 152,
