SC Bruins Boys Basketball Keeps Winning Momentum Going As Home Opener in New Gym is on the Horizon. The Bruins picked up a pair of road wins before the Holiday break, improving to 9-1 on the season. The Bruins toppled Westmoor 77-62 on December 20. Lockwood led the Bruins with 21 points. Sophomore Ronaq Virdi added 15 (via five three-pointers) points with Senior Brandon Ngo adding 11 and Senior Brandon Loredo adding 10 points. The Bruins then bested Branham 60-58 on December 22. The Bruins host cross-town rival Wilcox on January 6 at 7:45 p.m. to open SCVAL El Camino division play in the Bruins’ revamped gymnasium.
Wilcox Boys Basketball Picks up Pair of Wins. The Chargers Boys Basketball team picked up a pair of wins heading into the Holiday break. The Chargers improved to 5-4 by besting San Mateo 45-36 on December 21 and defeating Terra Nova 44-42 on December 20. Senior Andrew Aguilar combined for 25 points in the two wins.
SC Bruins Girls Basketball Wins Second Game in Homestead December Madness Tournament. The Bruins improved to 6-3 by defeating Watsonville 60-44 on December 20. Senior Jessi Boyd picked up a double double, scoring 21 points and snagging 10 rebounds. Sophomore Samantha Rudd added 14 points, six assists and six steals, while Senior Victoria Chavez added 13 points. The Bruins host Cupertino in their SCVAL El Camino division opener on January 6 at 6 p.m., their first game in the Bruins’ newly revamped gymnasium.
Santa Clara University Men’s Basketball Lose to Houston Baptist. SCU traveled to Houston and lost by a single point (72-71) to Houston Baptist on December 21. Junior Kevin Foster led the team with 19 points followed by sophomore Evan Roquemore with 15 points and four assists. As a team the Broncos shot 36.5% from the field (40.9% from three-point range) and collected 40 rebounds, four steals, 10 assists, and two blocks. The Broncos will next participate in the 45th Annual Cable Car Classic this Thursday, December 29 at home. Tipoff for the Broncos’ first game against Eastern Michigan is at 8:15 p.m.
Santa Clara University Women’s Basketball is Victorious over Sacramento State. The Broncos traveled to Sac State on Thursday, December 22 and beat Hornets 96-76. Archbishop Mitty alum and SCU redshirt junior Lindsay Leo scored a career-high 26 points in the victory. Senior Alyssa Shoji scored a season-best 25 points. The Broncos will return home on Saturday, December 31 to play Pepperdine University at 2 p.m.
