Rotary Club of Santa Clara Installs New President

The Rotary Club of Santa Clara has been a fixture in the city since 1936. Throughout the years, Santa Clara Rotary has supported the community through Steps for Success, Christmas for Kids, the popular Silicon Valley Barbecue Championships, and other humanitarian and philanthropic events. The “service above self” organization, whose first female president, Lou Ann Alexander, will term out this month, has recently announced its next president, Steve Rainbolt.

“I know our club will continue to grow and reach even greater heights under the leadership of our new president, Steve Rainbolt,” said Alexander, who noted that throughout her tenure, the club was able to contribute nearly $100,000 to community and international projects.

Rainbolt, who will be the club’s 79th president, has been a member of Rotary since 2006 and a resident of Santa Clara since 1992. He has served on the board of directors and was co-chair of the 2014 South Bay Enterprise Leadership Conference, a three-day entrepreneurial and leadership camp for high school students.

“The Rotary International theme for last year was ‘Engage Rotary, Change Lives,’ which, as a club, we accomplished through all of our local, community projects and the international efforts where we were engaged,” said Rainbolt. “Without a doubt, if you were able to pick a label for our club last year, it would be ‘Year of the Woman.’

“This year’s Rotary theme is ‘Light Up Rotary’ and our club is in a great position to do just that,” he continued. “Look around Santa Clara. It is booming, which means there are greater opportunities for our club to increase its membership with quality leaders that will help expand our fundraising efforts, resulting in a bigger impact on our community and abroad.”

In addition to the many community service projects the Rotary Club of Santa Clara sponsors, the club supports Rotary International’s global mission of eradicating polio.
