Exhibits at Silicon Valley's 10,000 square-foot Intel Museum show how technology has evolved from telegrams to cell phones and how advanced chip designs and manufacturing are accelerating technological advancements. In all, the museum features over 30 fun, interactive exhibits. Admission is FREE. Santa Clara University President's Speaker Series Presents Michael S. Malone May 6
Journalist Michael S. Malone will speak on "The Significance of the Entrepreneur in American History." Malone takes a look back at Silicon Valley history and takes stock of where we find ourselves on history's trajectory, and how a new society is emerging in the 21st century. Bike-to-Work Day 2008 May 15
Whether your concern is global warming, improved health – or both – the annual Bike-to-Work Day is an opportunity to try an alternative to driving to work.  The City of Santa Clara is participating in this regional event on Thursday, May 15, and encouraging commuters with an Energizer Station at the northeast corner of El Camino and Lincoln Street from 6:30 to 9 a.m.  Free refreshments will be provided to passers-by who are bicycling or walking to work that day.

41st Santa Clara International Swim Meet May 15-18
This summer the swimming world gears up for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.  As part of the competitive build-up, the Toyota Grand Prix series of swimming, a year long series of world class meets, heads to Santa Clara for the 41st Santa Clara International Swim Meet May 15-18.  This premier national and international meet will be one of the final tune-ups before the United States Swimming Olympic Trials.  Some of the finest swimmers from throughout the United States and the world will be competing in Santa Clara.  Already committed are Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin, Tara Kirk, Ben Wildman-Tobiner, Brendan Hansen, Peter Vanderkay, Caitlin Leverenz, Matt Greavers, Whitney Meyers, Dana Vollmer, Mary Descenza, Jayme Cramer, and Ryan Lochte, plus top swimmers from Europe, South America, Japan, Canada, and Australia.  Held at the George F. Haines International Swim Center, the invitational meet begins on Thursday, May 15 at 4 p.m. with distance events for both the men and women.  Preliminaries begin daily at 9 a.m., with finals starting at 5 p.m. Beginning in April, advanced tickets can be purchased through the Santa Clara Swim Club website at www.santaclaraswimclub.org.   
 
Santa Clara Chorale Presents “Ein Deutches Requiem, Op. 45.” May 16, 8 p.m. at Mission Santa Clara. SC Chorale joins voices with the Santa Clara University Choirs and a full professional orchestra to perform Johannes Brahms crowning achievement, the soul-stirring “Ein Deutches Requiem, Op. 45.”  The concert will also feature Brahms’ brief and moving work, “Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny) Op. 54,” a rarely heard jewel for chorus and orchestra.  For tickets and information, call 369-1289 or visit www.scc.org.

Fiesta! Fiesta Ole´ May 17
The annual fundraiser for Soroptimist International of Santa Clara is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 6:30-10 p.m. at the Triton Museum of Art, 1505 Warburton Ave.  Pre-sale tickets are $40 per person or $45 per person if purchased at the door.  The ticket price includes food, no host bar, and starter scrip.
 
Proceeds of this annual event benefit local charities.  Past recipients have included Santa Clara Valley Victims of Domestic Violence, FISH of Santa Clara for food for needy families, YWCA Rape Crisis Program, Triton Museum of Art for art supplies at the Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital, and programs of Soroptimist International of Santa Clara.

Afternoon Tea and Vintage Fashion Show June 8
The lovely, shaded garden of the Harris-Lass Historic Museum at 1889 Market St. will be the setting for an “Afternoon Tea and Vintage Fashion Show” from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 8.  Guests will be served tea, scones, finger sandwiches, fruit and pastries, while watching a vintage hat and fashion show featuring costumes and dress of the 19th and early 20th century.
 
 
Guests will also receive a pass to return, at a later date, for a private tour of the beautifully appointed Harris-Lass House with its delightful antique collections.  The event is sponsored by the Historic Preservation Society of Santa Clara.
