Latest 49er News: 49ers Stadium Going to the Ballot
After several months of lingering discussions, hours upon hours of City Council hearings and meetings and a bevy of public input, Santa Clara City Council voted unanimously, 7-0 in favor of placing the San Francisco 49ers stadium proposal on the November 2008 ballot.
Due to CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) restrictions, the Council elected to place an Advisory issue on the ballot. In order to place a binding issue on the ballot, the CEQA review must be completed --- a step expected to take several months to a year.

Outlook 2008: Looking at Greening Santa Clara Santa Clara’s Future is Bright

Featuring a panel discussion on the green movement in Santa Clara and in California, Outlook 2008 on Friday, March 14 at the Santa Clara Convention Center featured several panelists discussing a myriad of issues addressing the importance of greening the area has a positive impact in the area, as well as Mayor Patricia Mahan presenting her annual State of the City update.
Focusing on Greening Santa Clara and California “Sustainability always starts with good economics,” said Justin Bradley, Director of Energy programs of Silicon Valley Leadership Group, suggesting the main tool for sustainability is through culture and educating youth.
“Greening your business is a part of being a good corporate citizen,” said Bruce Klafter, Senior Director, Environmental, Health and Safety of Applied Materials. According to Klafter, some strategies utilized at Applied include a commitment to solar power, incorporating green products into products they manufacture for consumers, decreasing waste production and engaging employees by educating the workforce. The Princess Project Hosts Dress Giveaway Event
A wall-length blackboard displaying a bright pink tiara and thank you notes written in chalk greet high school girls arriving for their boutique appointments at The Princess Project Silicon Valley. These girls are ready to search for their perfect, free prom dress.

The Princess Project is a Bay Area non-profit organization that has given free, donated prom dresses and accessories to over 7,300 high school girls since its inception in 2002. An Extraordinary House
Next to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara, work continues on the JW House. JW Knapen, a 14 year-old boy that underwent cancer treatment at Kaiser Hospital, came up with a dream of a place where families could stay with their loved ones during long hospitalizations. According to the website, “He wanted this house to be a place for brothers and sisters to talk quietly; a place for moms and dads and grandparents to be able to eat together; a place to talk with other families that are facing similar challenges — a place that feels like a ‘home away from home’”.

Music Rivals Is A Hit
Did you ever dream of performing music or singing in front of an audience? Talented local students from Santa Clara middle schools and high schools got the opportunity on March 8 in the Music Rivals contest at the Wilcox Theater.
This fundraiser benefits the students in so many ways. First, the proceeds from the tickets for the evening of entertainment are donated entirely to the schools. The Santa Clara Schools Foundation supports this event and channels the funds to teachers for supplies, for example, and to students for college scholarships. West Meets West: Irish Eyes Smiling on Santa Clara
While some are blushing with green recovering from St. Patrick’s Day and others are eating leftover corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, others have been busy working on bringing a little bit of the Emerald Isle to Santa Clara --- permanently as a third Sister City.

The City’s 48th Annual Clean-Up Campaign will be held March 31 through April 25, with the cleanup being divided into four collection areas.
