Burglary
Location: 800 block of Bellomy Street and Panelli Place
Three separate Santa Clara University students reported thefts from their residences. Two of the thefts occurred while the victims were sleeping and the third theft occurred during a house party. The items taken were laptops, IPOD’s, and wallets. On Monday, March 16th, detectives were notified that some victims had located their stolen items on Craigslist. Detectives posed as a buyer and agreed to meet the seller at a pre-arranged location. Two Santa Clara University students were eventually arrested for the thefts. All of the victims’ property was recovered and returned.

Vandalism
Location: 3300 block of Granada
A concerned citizen witness contacted a Community Service Officer and reported that he just saw a person spray-paint graffiti. The CSO kept the subject under observation until officers arrived. Officers made contact with the San Jose resident and arrested him for vandalism.

Felony Warrant
Location: San Tomas Expressway at Walsh Ave.
A citizen reported seeing a male subject walking in and out of traffic. Officer Fanucchi made contact with the intoxicated subject who lied about his identity. The subject was arrested for public intoxication. Fingerprints revealed the subject also had an outstanding felony warrant for domestic violence. He was taken to County Jail.

Assault and Battery
Location: 3700 block of El Camino Real
A couple was sitting in their vehicle preparing to go into a business. An unknown male walked by their car and made derogatory comments to the victim’s pregnant wife. The victim exited his vehicle and was physically assaulted by the stranger. Officer Martin located the suspect and determined he was heavily intoxicated. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Traffic Enforcement
Location: El Camino Real at McCormick
The Traffic Unit enforced pedestrian right of way violations. An undercover officer posed as a pedestrian using the crosswalks. Drivers were stopped when they failed to yield the right of way. The officers issued 36 citations and towed 3 vehicles in just one hour.

Possession of weapons and Drugs
Location: Granada at Begin Place
Officer Henderson stopped a car for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, he found the driver and passenger were in possession of a TECH 9 machine gun and drugs. Both suspects were arrested without incident.

Felony Warrant
Location: Homestead Road at Las Palmas
Officer Niesen stopped a car for a Vehicle Code violation. The driver admitted to being a drug user and on parole. A warrants check revealed the driver had two outstanding felony warrants for narcotics and parole violation. The driver was arrested without incident.

Friday, March 21st, 2008
DUI
Location: Benton Street at Lawrence Expressway
Officer Machado was riding his motorcycle and stopped behind a vehicle on Benton Street. The officer noticed the driver was slumped over the steering wheel. Officer Machado made contact with the driver and determined he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver performed tests at the scene and was arrested for DUI without incident.
