Movie Review: Dont Mess with the Zohan

Rated PG-13 for sex, language, violence and embarrassing moments

The key words to remember are Don’t, as in don’t go, and Mess, which certainly sums up the new Adam Sandler “so called” comedy. So bad it’s embarrassing to watch and had to be humiliating to be a part of. The sex and raw humor are “adults only” stuff.

The two people two seats from me were a lady and a little girl between 5 and 7 years of age. Not a good idea. About a half hour into the film they walked out. I was thinking of following their lead when after about 5 minutes they came back. Obviously just a potty trip. How she could sit there with a child with the highly sexual and graphic stuff going on were beyond my understanding.

This film is about appropriate for kids as Schindler’s List. Schindler’s List actually has more laughs.

The film concerns The Zohan played by Sandler. He plays a cartoon like character capable of super feats beyond human belief living out his life as the top Israeli soldier. His opposite is a super terrorist almost as tough as Zohan. All Z desires is peace. He fakes his death then sneaks off to NY to become a hairdresser. The fish out of water similarities to Crocodile Dundee are on hand but none of them are very funny.

When he makes it into the salon business most of what follows are graphic scenes of sexual innuendo with the older female clients and outright sex with them in the closet at the beauty parlor. Business is booming and he is a success. As can be predicted the super terrorist shows up and complications ensue.

Lots of cameos included a very embarrassed looking Mariah Carey, John McEnroe, Shelley Berman (b. 1926 but looking like 1826) George Takei and others who make you wonder “what were they thinking?” Anybody who goes to see this movie can’t be accused of thinking. Now you have been warned. There was nobody there to help me out. I wish I hadn’t messed with the Zohan.
