Letters to the Editor: July 16, 2008

As I snacked on kettle corn and watched the fireworks at Santa Clara’s All City Picnic and Fireworks Extravaganza, my friend leaned over and said, “This is really awesome!”  It occurred to me that his phrase sums up a lot of what Santa Clara does.  The fireworks display is not just a pyrotechnics display; it is a real community event.  A local school band providing awesome entertainment, local non-profits providing awesome food and refreshments, combined with friends and neighbors socializing.  In spite of the thousands in attendance, there is a palpable fellowship in the air.

It is this sense of community that sets Santa Clara apart from so many other cities.  We are a city that still maintains, “That small town feel”.  I for one am glad to be a part of Santa Clara.
