Mental Health
Location: 2600 Block of El Camino Real
Officer Lange responded to a report of someone trying to break into a drug store. Investigation revealed that the suspect had tried to break the glass in the front of the store with a hammer, but had not gained entry. Due to the suspect’s extremely poor health he was taken to the hospital.

Monday, July 21st, 2008
Theft
Location: 3300 Block of Edward
Two citizens called the police department to report that there was a red truck with two occupants parked at the rear of a business. These individuals were loading materials into the truck. Officer Malae and Officer Lynch responded and found the vehicle. They stopped the truck and learned that the suspects did not have permission to remove the materials from the business. Also, one of the suspects had been arrested previously for the theft of recyclable materials. Both suspects were arrested and booked into County Jail.

Location: 2300 Block of Rosita Avenue
A citizen called the police department to report that two men with tools were standing by their neighbor’s plumbing truck. Officer Johnsen responded and detained one of the men, who was arrested and booked into County Jail. The other man fled over a fence and was not located. The suspects had been taking copper from inside the plumbing truck.

Possession of Stolen Property
Location: 10 Block of McKillop Court.
Officer Malae responded to a call of a vehicle blocking a driveway. The male driver of the vehicle was contacted and agreed to a search of his vehicle. The search revealed a small amount of methamphetamine. The suspect was arrested and a further search of his vehicle revealed numerous cell phones, PDAs and iPods, which appeared to be stolen. Five victims were identified and able to positively identify their property.

Possession of Stolen Property
Location: 3700 Block of El Camino Real
Officers Lee and Quan were called to a restaurant where someone had stolen a metal fish cleaning station. After completing the call, the officers contacted the recycling businesses in the city. Later that day, their efforts were rewarded when a recycling company called to say that two subjects were at the business with the fish cleaning station. Officers went to the business and arrested the two suspects.

Robbery
Location: 2700 Block of Homestead
Officers responded to the report of a fight in front of a grocery store. Three suspects had been stealing bottles of liquor and were confronted by and fought the store’s loss prevention officers. The loss prevention officers were able to detain one suspect. Officer Malae located one of the other suspects several blocks away. The suspects were arrested and charged with robbery.

Theft From Vehicle
Location: 900 Block of Pomeroy
A neighbor called to report that two subjects were attempting to open vehicle doors on his street. Officer Martinez arrived and observed the two subjects dropping property and then running away. Officer Martinez caught one of the suspects who was a juvenile. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Police Department where he was released to his mother.

Burglary
Location: 100 Block of Washington St.
A person called 911 to report that an unknown male had just kicked in the door of a neighboring apartment. Officers responded, but the suspect had fled. The occupant of the apartment was contacted at work and came home. Upon arrival, she did a walk through and did not notice anything missing. She also said that her apartment had been broken into the previous week, but nothing was stolen at that time either.

Assist Agency Outside City
Location: Murphy and Evelyn
The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety requested the assistance of the Santa Clara Police Department due to several large crowds in the nightclubs on Murphy Avenue. A fight broke out in one club and a woman was shot in the foot. Four Santa Clara officers and a Sergeant responded to assist with securing the perimeter and moving the crowds out of the downtown area.

Drunk In Public
Location: 2300 Block of William Drive
Officer C. Bell was looking for a stolen vehicle when he found a man in a van behind an apartment complex. The man ducked down when Officer Bell drove by, and the alarm on the van began to sound. Believing that there was an in-progress auto burglary occurring, Officer Bell made contact with the man. The van proved to belong to the man’s family, but the man was drunk and could not follow simple instructions. The man was arrested for Drunk In Public.

Location: 5400 Block of Stevens Creek Blvd.
A security company called the Police Department to report a number of alarm activations at a vacant motel. When officers arrived, they made contact with a female who admitted to being inside the fenced area of the motel, and led the officers to her boyfriend. As officers neared where the boyfriend was located, they observed the man hopping over the fence with a bag full of copper piping. Both individuals had methamphetamine pipes and the female had a warrant for possessing a methamphetamine pipe. Interestingly, the couple had welded small flashlights to the brims of their baseball caps in furtherance of their thefts.

Suicide Attempt
Location: 1000 Block of Reeve St.
A resident with mental health issues told friends that he was going to kill himself. He intentionally walked in front of on coming traffic at Reeve and Main. The vehicles were able to avoid hitting the man. Officers contacted the man and transported him to Valley Medical Center.
